I am Moving to Canada!

Hi Everyone,

As you may know, I qualified as an actuary this summer. It's always been a dream for me and my partner to live in North America. My company happens to have a large presence there and a few actuaries have already transferred across the Atlantic over the years.

My partner and I both sourced visas and I requested a transfer earlier this year. I was kindly offered a job by the Canadian arm of the company as a manager in the Analytics and Research department! The job is based in Toronto and I will be going there indefinitely.

The new job is in a similar area to my current one - mainly R&D work like developing GLMs and other pricing tools for commercial insurance in the P&C field.

I am lucky enough to be given help in relocating and it goes without saying that the cat and dog will be coming with us. I am so excited that my company is able to fulfil my wish to work abroad. I have lived here in Dublin, Ireland all my life so it will be a big change.

The Canadian office has a lot of projects going on right now so the big news is that I am moving there at the start of October for my first official day on the 14th October! It's only a few weeks away so it's all a bit crazy but I'll manage!

I am so excited about the move. I can't wait to discover what Toronto has to offer. I'm also looking forward to seeing other parts of Canada and America. I'm excited about the shopping potential too!

Professionally, I think I will be learning a lot too. Some of the work is more advanced over there and my new boss is a really accomplished guy.

On the other hand, I do expect to miss my current life a lot. I love my job here and I have friends and family here too. My partner can't go over immediately either so I will be living alone for a short while. Overall though, it's going to be amazing and I can't wait to get started! I am looking forward to sharing this new chapter in my life with you all.
